The first TPR secondee to join a covenant advisory team

“As of the summer of 2022, I had worked at The Pension Regulator (TPR) for seven years, predominantly in the Events Department engaging with DB Schemes. An opportunity came up to undertake a secondment working at Cardano Advisory for six months, for which I expressed an interest and started in August 2022. I thought it would be a great opportunity to expand my financial knowledge and to aid my understanding of how covenant advisors work in the private sector, not to mention, slightly breaking new ground as the first TPR secondee to an external covenant advisory team!

I was lucky enough to get involved in different areas of work, including covenant assessments, pre and post-transaction impact assessments, TCFD reporting, ESG work and a request from an employer to defer contributions to a DB scheme. I worked with different people at Cardano who were incredibly supportive and hopefully I was able to help by putting a TPR perspective on situations.

I am very grateful for the opportunity given and will be heading back to TPR with more skills and knowledge, as well as a deeper appreciation for the hard work that goes into the analysis/reports I so frequently receive at TPR. I would highly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to go on secondment to do so and look forward to keeping in touch with everyone at Cardano!”
